AMA submission to the Health Workforce Australia Rural Medical Generalist Draft National Framework

The AMA has made a submission to Health Workforce Australia’s Rural Medical Generalist Draft National Framework.

Generalist medical practitioners play a vital role in the health system of rural and remote Australia. Providing greater support for generalist career pathways is important to delivering high quality health care to patients in these communities. It is crucial that generalism is seen as a career path in itself, and is accompanied by a supporting framework to establish it as an attractive vocation for medical practitioners.

The AMA supports the intent and broad direction of the RMG Draft National Framework and looks forward to its progression through to implementation, as the detailed issues of funding, timeframes, responsibilities of lead agencies and agreement between Commonwealth and State governments are addressed.
