AMA Submission FSANZ Defining Added Sugar for Claims

The AMA acknowledges and supports FSANZ in recognising the need to ensure consumers are not misled about the food components set out in the proposed claim conditions, and had called for a more comprehensive definition of added-sugar that is fit for purpose.

The AMA strongly supports the view that ‘No added sugar’ claim conditions should simply ensure that no food that contains added-sugars is allowed to carry the claim. This includes single-ingredient products, especially those containing fruit and vegetables.
