AMA submission to the consultation on the proposal to regulate advanced practice paramedics
The AMA has made a submission to the Paramedicine Board’s proposal to regulate advanced practice paramedicine; a new regulated stream of paramedicine designed to work away from acute ambulance settings.

The AMA supports collaborative, team-based care models where paramedics work alongside medical practitioners. However, we strongly oppose independent prescribing of scheduled medicines by advanced practice paramedics, which carries the risk of fragmenting care, increases the likelihood of medication mismanagement, and diminishing clinical oversight.
