AMA Submission to the consultation on the pricing framework for Australian public hospital services 2027–28

The AMA supports a stable, transparent, and evidence-based pricing framework that accurately reflects the efficient cost of delivering safe, high-quality care. 

This is particularly important in the context of ongoing pressures on Australia’s public hospital system, including workforce shortages, rising demand, and increasing complexity of care. 

The AMA’s Clear the Logjam campaign is consistently raising the impacts of these pressures, which are impacting patients directly by affecting patient flow throughout the patient journey — from ambulance ramping at arrival, long wait times, delayed admission, delayed discharge and long-stay patients stuck in inappropriate and often harmful care environments with nowhere to go.
