AMA submission on the consultation of the draft Pharmacist Capability Framework

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) acknowledges the important role that pharmacists play in the Australian healthcare system. We, therefore, appreciate the value of the Pharmacist Capability Framework proposed by the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) in providing professional guidance for newly registered pharmacists, and supporting accreditation and regulatory functions by establishing a shared language of expectation. The AMA opposes the inclusion of autonomous prescribing within the scope of practice for pharmacists as described in the proposed framework.
