AMA members celebrated in 2026 Australia Day Honours

This week we thanked all doctors recognised in the 2026 Australia Day Honours list for their outstanding service and dedication to improving the health and wellbeing of Australians.  

AMA members honoured this year have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving patient care and strengthening the health system.

AMA members in the Australia Day Honours are:   

AC (Companion of the Order of Australia)   

Emeritus Professor Bruce Armstrong, of Western Australia, for eminent service to medical research, to environmental and genetic cancer epidemiology, to screening service development, to academia, and to public health administration.  

AO (Officer of the Order of Australia)  

Professor Anne Buist, of Victoria, for distinguished service to psychiatry, to advancing best practice in perinatal mental health research and treatment, and to mental health education.  

Associate Professor Anthony Lynham, of Queensland, for distinguished service to trauma medicine as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, to the Parliament of Queensland, and to the community.  

AM (Member of the Order of Australia)   

Mr Robert Fitzpatrick, of Western Australia, for significant service to plastic and reconstructive surgery, and to the community of Western Australia.  

The late Professor Peter Holmes, of Victoria, for significant service to medicine as a respiratory physician, clinician and teacher.  

Dr Susan Jacobs, of New South Wales, for significant service to women's health in the fields of obstetrics and gynaecology 

Dr Leon Pitchon, of South Australia, for significant service to medicine as a plastic surgeon, and to the arts through philanthropy.  

Dr Fiona Stewart, of New South Wales, for significant service to anatomy as a surgical clinician, researcher and educator, as an academic, and to the community. 

Dr Andrew Wines, of New South Wales, for significant service to orthopaedic surgery, and to the community.  

OAM (Medal of the Order of Australia)   

Dr Victor Buccheri, of Victoria, for service to the Italian community of Melbourne.  

Clinical Professor Lesley Cala, of Western Australia, for service to tertiary education.  

Dr Gordon Campbell, of New South Wales, for service to obstetrics and gynaecology 

Dr Felix Ho, of the Northern Territory, for service to community health.
