AMA welcomes three esteemed members to the AMA Roll of Fellows
The AMA Roll of Fellows has three new members following AMA25 with the admission of Dr Maria Boulton, Prof Walter Abhayaratna and Dr Lorraine Baker in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the medical profession.

Dr Boulton, former President of AMA Queensland and GP practice owner, discussed her journey from fleeing civil war in El Salvador to becoming a distinguished medical leader. She reflected on her achievements including securing payroll tax exemptions for Queensland general practices and expanding preventive health programmes, saying: "It is a privilege to care for people of all ages, care for entire families — sometimes four generations of the same family."
Prof Walter Abhayaratna, former President of Australian Medical Association (ACT), was recognised for his outstanding leadership in health research and advocacy, particularly his work addressing workforce culture, funding constraints, and COVID-19's impact on the medical profession. His colleagues praised his ability to bring people together whilst never being afraid to "speak truth to power" on matters of importance.
Dr Lorraine Baker, former Australian Medical Association (Victoria) President and founding Chair of the Inner East Melbourne Division of General Practice, was honoured for her lifelong dedication to workforce wellbeing, family violence prevention in healthcare, and health equity advocacy. Her visionary leadership has left a lasting impact on professional development and community health.
We congratulate Dr Boulton, Dr Abhayaratna, and Dr Baker on their incredible work and celebrate your admission to the AMA Roll of Fellows.
