Communique from AMA/Ahpra/MBA meeting

A communique has been issued following last December’s meeting between the AMA, Ahpra, and the Medical Board of Australia.

AMA representatives met with the Medical Board of Australia and Ahpra senior management on 16 December 2022 for the Annual Workshop to consider the handling of notifications as well as a number of other issues, including the recent legislative changes to the National Law, Cosmetic Surgery, and supervision arrangements of doctors under conditions.

The AMA representatives reiterated very strong concern about the new power for regulators to issue public statements about practitioners without completing due process; as well as concern about the increasing length of time being taken for the processing of complaints against doctors.

A communique from the meeting is here.
