Doctors in Training Meet in Canberra

Members of the AMA CDT met in the capital to discuss the issues facing young doctors.

The AMA Council of Doctors in Training (AMACDT) had their fifth meeting for the year at the Federal AMA’s offices in Canberra last weekend.

The AMA Council of Doctors in Training, chaired by Dr Hannah Szewczyk, is made up of AMA state and territory Doctor in Training chairs, AMSA, and other doctor in training representatives. At the meeting the council discussed issues affecting the junior doctor workforce across all states and territories including flexibility in training, the Bonded Medical Program, GP training and workforce, and prevocational trainees.

The council also saw presentations from the Commonwealth Department of Health on the National Medical Workforce Strategy, growing the GP workforce, and prevocational placement programs.

The AMACDT conducted strategic planning for 2023 and recommitted to advancing actions and advocacy on doctor wellbeing, progression through training, and prevocational and unaccredited training.
