AMA Council of Doctors in Training (CDT) and Digital Health Subcommittee member Dr Honor Magon has been awarded a Fulbright Future Scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at Stanford University.

Dr Magon is a practicing doctor training in occupational medicine, and now builds on her experience embarking on a Master of Science in Clinical Informatics Management at Stanford. There she will expand her expertise in digital health and hopes to find solutions to help contribute towards physician and healthcare worker wellbeing.

Dr Magon travels to the United States in June this year to begin her course, while she also continues her research and clinical work. She says that her area of interest is in the emerging area of technology as a vehicle to facilitate wellbeing and safety at work for healthcare workers.

While digital health has been the area of Dr Magon’s interest for some time, it was while training in occupational medicine at the time of COVID-19 pandemic that she became particularly aware of the importance of preventing doctors’ burnout.

Her study will seek to reduce stress placed on doctors by increased documentation demands, exploring digital solutions to support the health and wellbeing of health workers, and investigating ways to integrate preventative health principles into the design of our digital systems in Australian hospitals.
