Mekong region health professionals visit the AMA

This month, the AMA hosted a group of international doctors to discuss gender equity in medicine and healthcare.

Health professionals from Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar, visited the AMA last week to learn about our work on gender equity and improving women's access to healthcare in Australia.

AMA Secretary General and Group Chief Executive Officer Ms. Natalia Centellas spoke about the work the AMA is doing to improve representation of women on its councils and committees. Ms Centellas emphasised the importance of the AMA’s partnership with the Advancing Women in Healthcare Leadership initiative to support women to take on leadership positions in the AMA and healthcare more broadly.

Dr Magdalena Simonis, AMA GP Representative, discussed the unique challenges confronting women, including for those that are part of diverse communities, that lead to poorer health outcomes, and AMA advocacy to better inform policy development and improve health outcomes for women and girls.
