Register now for the AMA/DoH scope of practice webinar

AMA members are invited to register for a webinar on the scope of practice review and to submit their questions ahead of the event.

AMA members have an opportunity to hear first-hand from Professor Mark Cormack about the federal government’s Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce — Scope of Practice Review at a webinar on 30 November.

The webinar is an opportunity to hear from Professor Cormack about the soon-to-be released Issues Paper 1 of the review, including the evidence gathered to date, emerging themes, key questions for further exploration and next steps.

The review, which resulted from the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce Report, is a 12-month program that is examining the evidence and perspectives about how scope of practice in the context of the multidisciplinary care team can contribute to best practice primary care as the core of a safe, effective and modern health system.

The AMA’s submission to the review highlighted the need for any reform in scope of practice to be evidence-based and focused on patient safety. Any reform must also occur in a collaborative way to avoid further fragmenting healthcare.

The joint webinar will be followed by a Department of Health and Aged Care roadshow in February. These events will be held around the country so that key stakeholders can come together to comment on the issues paper and advise and shape the next steps of the review. The department is looking for expressions of interest from health professionals, regulators, insurers, and others with an interest in primary care to join the department at these key events.
