Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

Following our inaugural march in the 2025 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, we are excited to announce we have again been successful in obtaining a parade spot for 2026.

The theme for the 2026 festival is “Ecstatica”. The AMA submitted under the banner: Ecstatica Practitiona — Proud to Care.

Participation in Mardi Gras offers us an opportunity to further our advocacy work, and publicly support the LGBTQIASB+ community, who are our members and their patients.

The AMA has been advocating for LGBTQIASB+ healthcare provision, and for the rights of doctors and medical students who are also LGBTQIASB+, with an updated position statement released in 2023.

The position statement includes a call for support for mainstream health services, including by funding training, education and accreditation programs. Earlier this year we welcomed the government’s commitment to provide $10 million in funding over four years to subsidise training for primary health care professionals in delivering inclusive LGBTQIASB+ healthcare.

We were also pleased to see the release of Australia’s first National Action Plan for the Health and Wellbeing of LGBTQIASB+ people last year and the strong emphasis on support in the plan for training and education to improve health equity for LGBTQIASB+ people, which acknowledges and respects their diversity.

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival runs from February 13 to March 1, with the main parade on February 28.

We will keep you informed on how you can participate.
