Building on the success of the 2024 National Conference, with a dynamic program, more networking and plenty of time for members to contribute the *CPD-accredited AMA National Annual Conference — AMA25 — sets the benchmark high for delivering the premier event for medical professionals across all specialties and career stages.
The AMA is the peak professional body for doctors in Australia. Representing and supporting all doctors, we work with governments to develop and influence health policy to provide the best outcomes for doctors, their patients, and the community. We are member-run and led.
The AMA is the only peak body that covers the entire scope of medical practitioners across various specialties, craft groups, and stages of careers.
Safeguarding Australia’s Healthcare
This year's conference theme has been chosen to highlight the AMA’s advocacy and policy work that improves the healthcare system for all doctors and patients and to emphasise the AMA’s purpose as the peak professional body for all doctors that campaigns on issues affecting the medical profession.

Dr James Muecke AMKeynote speaker Dr James Muecke AM is an ophthalmologist based in Adelaide. We are honoured to have Dr James Muecke AM, Australian of the Year 2020 and founder of Sight For All, as a keynote speaker. Dr Muecke's extraordinary journey from battling conditions in developing countries to becoming a pioneering force in preventable blindness makes him uniquely positioned to inspire our collective mission of safeguarding Australia's healthcare. James also has a keen interest in the field of medical retina, in particular diabetes-related eye disease, vascular eye tumours, and conditions that masquerade as intraocular cancers. He is the author of numerous publications and has taught ocular oncology in ten countries in Asia and is the founding Chairman of Sight For All, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to fighting blindness in Australian mainstream and Aboriginal communities and in the low income countries of the world (www.sightforall.org). James is Australian of the Year for 2020 for his 32 years of humanitarian work. He is using this powerful platform to raise awareness of our poor diet, laden with sugar, which is devastating the health of Australians. |
Gill Hicks MBE AMKeynote speaker We are excited to announce that South Australian Gill Hicks — considered to be one of the most thought provoking, powerful and life affirming speakers in Australia and the UK, globally known as an advocate for sustainable peace and a valuable resource in countering violent extremism, will speak at our upcoming national conference. Gill’s devotion to making a personal greater contribution and positive difference to the urgency of building peace was realised when she was made permanently injured in the London terrorist bombings on July 7th, 2005. She was the last living victim rescued after the bombings. Her injuries were so severe that she was initially not expected to live. But Gill is much more than a survivor. Designing ‘sustainable peace’ has become the core focus to her body of work. She has also been awarded an MBE and an AM in recognition of her work within the charity sector. |
