CDT Chair update - June
It has been a fantastic start to the year for Queensland’s doctors in training. As CDT Chair, I have been proud to see strong engagement, thoughtful advocacy and real momentum across our key priorities, including safe working conditions, access to professional development leave and medical wellbeing.

Our flagship event, the 2025 Junior Doctor Conference, took place in May on the Fraser Coast. With over 150+ delegates (one of our biggest attendances to date!), the conference brought together doctors in training from across Queensland and interstate to spark rich conversations about diverse medical career pathways and provide inspiration about the opportunities available in regional Queensland. The two-day program covered sessions on clinical confidence, promoting wellbeing and navigating the evolving landscape of AI in healthcare, along with plenty of practical skills workshops and social events. A huge thank you goes to all of our speakers, sponsors and the AMA Queensland team for making this event possible.
This quarter also marked the first meeting of our 2025 CDT, with new and returning members from across the state. Our committee is diverse in geography, specialty, experience and ideas, so we are incredibly excited to work towards our goals for this year. With our dedicated Special Interest Groups (SIG) leads, we have sharpened our focus and ensure each priority has dedicated leadership.
- Industrial Relations SIG: Advocating for improved entitlements and sustainable working conditions for doctors in training through MOCA7.
- Wellbeing SIG: Championing wellbeing initiatives for doctors in training that support mental health, professional fulfilment and cultural change, informed by data such as the Queensland Health Medical Workforce Wellbeing Survey.
- Education and Training SIG: Pushing for transparent, equitable and supportive medical training, recruitment processes and state-wide consistency.
- Digital Health SIG: Promoting equitable access to digital tools, exploring the integration of AI and innovative CPD delivery.
- Rural and Remote SIG: Strengthening regional incentives, career progression and connecting rural doctors in training to support and opportunities state-wide.
We are always keen to hear new ideas and suggestions, so encourage any doctors in training. whether in a city or regional site, in prevocational or specialty training, to get involved. If you have ideas, feedback, or want to get more involved in CDT activities, please reach out to your CDT hospital representative, we would love to hear from you.
Thank you to our CDT members and AMA Queensland staff for their energy and commitment so far this year. Looking forward to seeing what we achieve in the rest of 2025!
