Celebrating culture and collaboration

AMA SA President Associate Professor Peter Subramaniam proudly joined SAIMA and BAMSSA in celebrating the unity, diversity and strength of South Australia’s medical community.

AMA SA President Associate Professor Peter Subramaniam says he was ‘honoured’ to attend recent events hosted by the South Australian Indian Medical Association (SAIMA) and the Bangladeshi Australian Medical Society of South Australia (BAMSSA).

‘SAIMA’s vibrant Gala Dinner on Saturday 14 June and BAMSSA’s Annual Scientific Meeting on Saturday 21 June showcased strength, leadership, and unity of our multicultural medical workforce,’ A/Prof Subramaniam says.

‘Our organisations possess a shared commitment to clinical excellence, mentorship, and community health.’

A/Prof Subramaniam says doctors of Bangladeshi and Indian heritage form a vital part of South Australia’s medical landscape.

‘South Asian-born doctors now represent over 11% of all medical practitioners in Australia – they are an integral part of the national medical workforce with their contribution helping to address critical shortages in general practice, hospital care, and specialist services,' he says.

'AMA SA is proud to work alongside BAMSSA, SAIMA, and all culturally based medical societies to address shared priorities and build a stronger, more inclusive health system for all.

A/Prof Subramaniam says he welcomes opportunities to represent AMA SA at such events and his 'door is always open'.

‘Member engagement is an important part of my role as your President. I welcome members communicating their concerns and issues directly with me via president@amasa.org.au,' He says.

‘You can also request a call or a meeting with me and I will do my best to attend to your request in a timely fashion.

‘The AMA SA is here to serve the interests of doctors in SA, and I welcome the opportunity to do so.’
