AMA Pays Tribute to All Australia’s Hardworking GPs

AMA Family Doctor Week 2017 (July 23-29) has been in full swing this week, giving us time to celebrate and reflect on the hard work our GPs provide across Australia. This year the theme is Your family doctor: all about you, a reminder to the community that GPs provide care that is tailored to the individual needs of every patient. In launching Family Doctor Week, AMA President, Dr Michael Gannon, urged all Australians to establish and maintain a close cooperative relationship with their local family doctor.

To celebrate Family Doctor Week the AMA has released several videos, which you can watch from the AMA Family Doctor Week 2017 webpage. In particular, the AMA recognises the vital role GPs play in identifying and helping patients to reduce risk factors in order to live their healthiest life.

Every day this week the AMA has been active in promoting the important work family doctors do, whether it be helping deliver healthy babies, guiding patients to a healthier weight, or discussing the importance of vaccination.

Federal politicians have also thrown their support behind Family Doctor Week, celebrating the importance of the family GP. Emma Husar told us why she loves her GP, as have many other politicians – you can view them all on the AMA’s YouTube channel.

Other ways you can get involved include following us on Twitter and using the hashtag #amafdw17, download, print and display the Family Doctor Week 2017 poster for general practice clinics, read and share the general practice themed articles in Australian Medicine and the Medical Journal of Australia, and check out the AMA Family Doctor Week 2017 webpage.
