1. The AMA believes that First Aid teaching (outside the Accident and Emergency Term) should be compulsory at all Australian Medical Schools due to the justifiable expectations that the public has on medical students' and doctors' abilities to save lives in an emergency situation.
2. The AMA believes that the minimum requirement for First Aid teaching should be the Red Cross Senior First Aid or St Johns Level 2 Certificate, or equivalent, and that this should be taught to students in the first year of the course, with a revision course being conducted during the last three years of the course.
3. The AMA believes that this training should not result in an expense to any student, except where such an expense is incurred in the purchase of non-compulsory course items.
