Interview - AMA President, Dr Bill Glasson, ABC North Queensland - James Cook University's Medical School to assist shortage of doctors

E & OE - PROOF ONLY

NEWSREADER:     The President of the Australian medical Association says James Cook University's Medical School is likely to help address the shortage of Doctors in the bush.  Dr Bill Glasson has completed a tour of Western Queensland visiting sites such as Birdsville, Bedourie, Boulia and Mount Isa.  He says it's important remote students are encouraged to study medicine and are trained in regional areas and noted James Cook University in Townsville should make a difference to rural services in the future.

GLASSON:               And I think that the JCU Medical School is a very good example of where there has been affirmative sort of action in trying to attract both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students from rural and remote areas and I think once the first cohort of those students come out of the system, I think that will cause a very, very big impact on our ability to deliver appropriate services across the whole of, you know, Western Queensland.
